Environmental Science Instructors (ESI)

Primary Programmer and Student Supervisor from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm
Assistant Programmer and Student Supervisor from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Curriculum Development, Meetings and Planning Time: 7:30-9:00 pm
One night a week: Assist with Evening Program Instruction from 7:30-9:05 pm

·         Plan and facilitate daily science and adventure education program for students

·         Plan and facilitate group initiatives and team building exercises

·         Keep track of student journals

·         Assist with planning and facilitating orientation activities at Swallowtail Lighthouse.

·         Structure the time that the campers are in the field i.e. minimize the times that students can get into trouble or difficulties with each other and minimize the times that students can get injured and the situations that they can be injured in

·         Provide first aid as needed for injuries

·         Administer medications to the campers in your group that need it during the daytime program. Record this information in the First Aid log book

·         Dispense camper money from the bank and keep track of bank balance for your students.

·         Be a positive role model and mentor for campers

·         Communicate with parents as requested by Directors

·         Communicate with ORD’s, Directors and Coordinators on a daily basis

·         Participate in travel and transportation days

·         Maintain science equipment

·         Responsible for set up and break down of science center as assigned

·         Assist with meals occasionally facilitate meals

·         Maintain personal first aid kit

·         Take on one additional “guru” responsibility i.e. group pictures with names, orientation facilitation, etc…

·         Help with general camp maintenance and running of store as needed

·         Assist with camper supervision from 5:00 – 7:30 pm

·         Facilitate options time programs some evenings

·         Assist with evening program (7:35 pm – 9:05 pm) one night a week

·         Flexibility with dissections…..

·         Assist with “big clean” days, packing and unpacking.

·         Off Time: One day per week as well as daily after 9:00 pm. The day off begins after your duties end at night and ends ½ hour before breakfast the morning following your day off.

·         Complete one summer project to enhance the program. Directors must approve project.

·         Add 5 professional quality lesson plans to existing program notebooks

·         Program Planning / Curriculum Development Time / Staff Meetings: Every night from 7:30 until 9:00 pm. Will have some time during the summer built into the daytime schedule for curriculum development.

·         Maintain and display a positive and encouraging attitude at all times

·         No drugs allowed. Responsible alcohol use limited to certain locations and times.
