Sample 1,2 & 3 Week Schedules:
Sunday- Morning: Drive from Bangor Maine, ferry to Grand Manan, Afternoon: Ice-breaking games at Swallowtail Lighthouse peninsula. Unpacking and Orientation at camp; evening team-building games.
Monday- Morning: 1st wkrs- Sensory Awareness and Environmental Awareness training; Activities to experience and Understand forces that create the Tides of the Bay of Fundy. 2nd & 3rd Wkrs. Whale Research Data-Collection Workshop. Afternoon: Board the sailboat Elsie Minota for exploration of the Bay of Fundy- Marine Mammal & Avian Species Observation, Identification and Research; 1st Week Focus- Physiology; 2nd Week Focus- Behaviors; 3rd Week Focus- Research; All weeks: Observation techniques, Species & individual identification, Data Collection.
Evening: Recreational games, Puffin Program, Puffin Mafia.
Tuesday- Morning: 2nd Wkrs. Board research boat Days Catch for trip to Machias Seal Island (free trip for 2nd wkrs.; optional for 1, 3 wkrs.), closely observe Puffins, Razorbill Auks, Common Murres. 1st & 3rd Wkrs.- Land based birds, observation & identification. Afternoon: 1st Wkrs. Geology coastal hike to Flock-of-Sheep glacial deposits. 2nd & 3rd Wkrs. Fisheries & Culture of Grand Manan or Visit Sardine Museum. Evening: Recreational games on beach.
Wednesday- Morning: Marine Mammal & Marine Biology Activities 1st Week Focus- Physiology; 2nd Week Focus- Behaviors; 3rd Week Focus- Research. Afternoon: Board research boat Days Catch for exploration of the Bay of Fundy- Marine Mammal & Avian Species Observation, Identification and Research; 1st Week Focus- Oceanography 1-Ocean Chemistry, Free Oxygen, Salinity, Temperature, Nutrients-Special Equipment: Secci Disc, Refractomiter, water testing kits; 2nd Week Focus-Oceanography 2- Plankton identification & study Ã¢â‚¬â€œ Special Equipment: Plankton net, field microscopes; 3rd Week Focus -Oceanography 3-Advanced Oceanography & Plankton Research. All weeks: Marnie Mammal Observation techniques, Data Collection. Evening: Recreational games, teambuilding initiatives
Thursday- Morning: Coastal Kayak tour or coastal hike. Afternoon: Tide Pooling activity & Lab Levels 1,2 &3. Evening: Tidal Zone lab activities and games.
Friday- Morning: Whale Research Presentation & Discussion of current whale/marine research by Laurie Murison, Manager of Whale & Seabird Research Station. Afternoon: Photo-tour of Grand Manan, Camp big-cleanup. Evening: Campfire.
Saturday- (Travel back to Bangor for those leaving; Optional day long Kayak or overnight Kayak camping trip) Morning: late breakfast, Grand Manan Farmers Market. Afternoon: 2 wkrs. Beach Activities and Games. 3wkrs. Take ferry to explore Whitehead Island. Evening: Mini-golf
Sunday- Staying Campers Morning: Late Breakfast, Science Center activity.
