All youth sessions include
these elements integrated into the daily schedule through field experiences,
hikes, eco-tours, and classroom activities: Whale and Marine Mammal Observation, Bird
Observation, Bird Banding, Sailing and Navigation, Regional Ecology and Geology,
Intertidal Ecology, Wetland Ecology, Forest Ecology, marine and Cetacean
Studies, Environmental Science, Oceanography, Local Fishing Industry and
Agriculture, History and Folklore of Grand Manan and the Bay of Fundy.
One-week sessions provide
an overview of all of these elements, longer sessions provide campers a much
more in-depth learning experience. Two and three-week sessions allow campers a greater opportunity to observe marine mammals in a wide variety
of their movements, behaviors and activities as well as ample time to hike and explore island ecology. The
three-week Authors of the Sea
program incorporates writing and art workshops led by professionals. The purpose
of this session is to design, layout and prepare for print a high-quality book
of student writing and art.

"Authors of the Sea" Workshop
The ultimate Whale Camp experience is our three-week authors' program.
In addition to the advantage of more in-depth whale research and sailing
experiences, imagine the excitement of creating, illustrating and preparing for
print a high-quality book documenting the experiences of the campers.
Photographs, drawings, short stories, poems, songs and documentary writings will
be included. For this session the Whale Camp employs an additional staff of published authors and a professional artist. Campers can choose to focus on their
own areas of interest and contribute according to their own ability. Each proud
author will receive one free copy of the book. Additional copies will be
available for an added charge.
